Castor seed prices dropped by Rs 20 to Rs 4,650 per quintal after traders liquidated holdings amid a weak trend at the physical markets.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, castor seed for delivery in September contracts slipped by Rs 20 or 0.43 per cent to Rs 4,650 per quintal, having an open interest of 69,330 lots.
In a similar way, the delivery for the October contract eased by Rs 19 or 0.40 per cent to Rs 4,749 per quintal, with the business turnover of 31,790 lots.
Castor seed prices came down by Rs 23 to Rs 4,686 per quintal in futures trading as traders adopted cautious stance and cut down their positions in line with subdued trend at the physical markets.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, castor seed for most-traded delivery in September contracts dropped by Rs 23 of 0.49 per cent to Rs 4,686 per quintal, with an open interest of 72,190 lots.
The delivery for October month contract also fell by Rs 19 or 0.40 per cent to Rs 4,787 per quintal, having an open interest of 27,370 lots.
German biodegradable and biobased plastics producer Bio-Fed has added renewable resource-based polyamide compounds, the “MVera ECS” products, to its portfolio. The main focus of Bio-Fed is on compostable and biodegradable plastic compounds for film applications as well as injection moulding.
The new PA 6.10 fulfils the standard definition of a bioplastic since it is made up of approximately 60% renewable resources. Castor oil, derived from the seeds of the plant Ricinuns communis, forms the basis of sebacic acid, which is the product’s renewable raw material content.
Castor seed prices bounced by Rs 107 per quintal in futures trade after participants accumulated speculative positions, powered by strong domestic and overseas demand.
Market players said a firm trend at the physical markets following frantic buying by soap and other consuming industries amid pause in arrivals from growing areas, influenced castor seed prices in futures market.

Following its promotions of Jamaican cosmetics in London, the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) will lead a trade mission to the Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show in Atlanta, Georgia between August 19 and 21.
Eight Companies will be part of the delegation to the event, which hosts over 30,000 beauty professionals yearly who explore the newest and most exciting beauty trends and products.
Six of the companies will be focusing on the promotion of Jamaican Black Castor oil products, as JAMPRO strengthens its strategy to develop the castor oil sector. The Jamaica Manufacturers Association (JMA) will also join the mission to support the companies.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castorseed for delivery in September rose by Rs 15, or 0.32 per cent, to Rs 4,658 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 80,470 lots.
Castorseed for delivery in October also moved up by a similar margin to trade at Rs 4,738 per quintal and open interest stood at 9,840 lots.
Castorseed prices dropped by Rs 49 to Rs 4,572 per quintal in futures trade today following offloading of positions by speculators in the wake of weak trend at the physical markets.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castorseed for delivery this month slipped by Rs 49, or 1.08 per cent, to Rs 4,572 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 1,810 lots.
The delivery for the most-traded September too eased by Rs 23, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 4,662 per quintal, depicting an open interest of 75,220 lots.
Castor seed futures on National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) witnessed the highest single day jump on Wednesday since March this year supported by highest ever monthly export volume of castor meal and reports of crop damage due to heavy rains in Gujarat.
The benchmark castor seed contract on NCDEX for September delivery was up more than 3.21 % or Rs 147 today to trade at Rs. 4,727 per quintal, its highest level in four and half months.
